Pros

Helpful Teammates: The camaraderie among colleagues is commendable. Team members are supportive and willing to help each other, creating a collaborative environment. Flexible Working: The company offers flexibility in working hours, which can greatly enhance work-life balance and accommodate personal needs. Good Culture: There is a generally positive culture that promotes teamwork and inclusivity, making it a pleasant place to work.

Cons

Ready to hear the rant? The just some random rant, its what we faced right now! Lack of Empathy: Recent changes in performance review policies—from biannual to annual—felt abrupt and unfair, especially as they were implemented just after the supposedly second review of the year. This shift has left many employees feeling betrayed, particularly following the announcement of the company's first profitability after two layoffs within a year. The management's call for empathy towards clients contrasts sharply with their treatment of employees. Low Salary: Despite an increase in workload and changing KPIs that seem increasingly unrealistic, salaries have not kept pace with market trends. This discrepancy has led to dissatisfaction among staff who feel undervalued. Poor Internal Communication: There is a significant lack of accountability within departments. When issues arise, blame is often shifted between departments rather than resolved collaboratively. This behavior creates frustration and inefficiency, especially when one region's errors impact client-facing teams. Transparency Issues: Although Osome promotes transparency as a core value, my experience suggests otherwise. I received a warning from HR for inquiring about something, indicating a culture that discourages open dialogue. Additionally, employee feedback from surveys seems to be shared with upper management, leading to concerns about confidentiality and potential repercussions. Overpromising Services: Teams often set unrealistic expectations for clients regarding the ease of service delivery. While the goal is to provide hassle-free experiences, this approach can backfire when clients encounter challenges that were downplayed during the sales process.

Pros

Osome offers flexible working arrangements, including hybrid work with only two days per week working from office, and the option to work from home for the whole month of Ramadan. The team leads are supportive, transparent, and willing to acknowledge employees’ efforts and hard work. Colleagues are also helpful, which makes the working environment easier to manage despite the workload. The role provides a strong learning curve, especially for those who want exposure to accounting, client handling, and managing a portfolio independently. There is a high level of autonomy in handling daily work, which helps employees build ownership and time management skills. The company also shows some care towards employees’ wellbeing, such as providing mental health leave. Osome’s internal system, which uses AI, can also help make certain accounting tasks more manageable and efficient.

Cons

The workload can be very high, especially during peak periods. Since the role is client-facing, it can also be stressful when dealing with difficult clients or urgent client requests. The environment is fast-paced, and guidance can sometimes be limited, so employees need to be proactive, independent, and able to manage their time effectively. There have also been many changes and restructuring. While change is expected in a growing company, frequent changes can affect both employees and clients. KPIs that used to be achievable may become less realistic due to new changes and expectations. Salary is average compared to the workload and expectations. The company is also placing a strong emphasis on using AI in accounting work. While this improves efficiency, it may also create uncertainty around headcount and long-term job stability. Career growth may also be limited, especially for employees who are looking for a clearer progression path.
