Useless Job

Pros

Really nice peers. Get to party a lot and have fun

Cons

- No real skill set acquired. You do useless and most pointless research on 'people' within various industries and you try to reach out them. You are one of those useless people who just finds people with a particular set of skills. In short, the business model consists of work which is not challenging at all, instead, it is futile at best. Apart from partners, most of the employees come from third and fourth tier schools in the UK or the US. In short, capability and competency of employees is questionable.

Pros

- You work with some really amazing and passionate peers - Good for developing soft skills - A lot of Company outings and events - Early responsibility - Supportive of Office Initiatives. Can make an tangible impact on other employees - The AlphaSights brand is growing stronger, enticing high calibre peers and increasing its value to future employers.

Cons

- Poor and immature office leadership. Lead by managers with no prior real working and leadership experiences, whom lash out at Analysts whom speak of the blunt reality of the business or critic the management style of the office - Micromanaging is deemed a skill and helpful for promotion opportunities - Long all consuming hours, particularly if you want to keep your compensation competitive - Poor compensation considering you will be working 12 hour days - Office politics already apparent - The type of work does not encourage any team work - Poor treatment of AlphaSights Alumni, similarly to lepers from the medieval era. Consistent bad mouthing of former employees in public breeds a poor attitude and culture which is also performed by the Managing Director. - Repetitive work, parallel to a glorified call centre

Pros

- Pay is good (if you work 12 hrs a day) - Diversity within office

Cons

- Manipulative managers + Vps. Love micromanaging and get upset if you do not attend social events - Spend 2-3 hrs a week to talk about your self but super repetitive - After 5 months on the job, the learning curve is flat. Very hard to get a new job if you spend too long at this job. It is a glorified call centre, and all interviewers know this. Most people who leave Alpha sights, either go on to do an MBA, join a family business, or take a similar role in cold calling. That is a fact - The company thinks that the clients need us more than they do. There are 7-8 players in the market, and they all have the same contacts - Company retention is abysmal. The average person stays for less than 14 months - If you have any other job offer, take that
