"We want to be the most data-driven financial services organisation in Asia. And that’s achievable, having the right people, processes, and platforms in place,” says Donald MacDonald, Head of Group Data Office at OCBC Bank.
We have joined the United Nations-convened, industry-led Net Zero Banking Alliance, as part of our commitment to working with industry peers, customers and policymakers to transition to a low-carbon world. We have begun developing a systematic plan to achieve net zero by 2050, and aim to unveil our sectoral financed emission targets by first half of 2023.

We are pleased to support the CPF Board in their mission to continually improve the service experience for Singaporeans through initiatives like GovCash. With GovCash, Singaporeans can now withdraw Government payments in cash any time of the day at over 500 of our ATMs located across Singapore, even if they do not have a bank account with us. Up to 40,000 Singaporeans will be spared from queueing at bank branches to encash some 500,000 cheques annually. GovCash is no less secure than receiving payments via cheque as it uses Singpass facial verification technology to authenticate users, including a liveness-detection capability that blocks the use of photographs, videos or masks during the verification process.

OCBC Bank has become the first bank in Southeast Asia to commit to cut its ship-financed emissions, joining 28 other leading global banks to adopt the Poseidon Principles. The Poseidon Principles are a globally recognised framework that guides how the Bank determines, assesses and manages the climate alignment of our ship finance portfolio to support the shipping industry’s targets of reducing carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2050. According to the International Maritime Organisation, maritime transport emits around 940 million tonnes of carbon annually and is responsible for about 2.5% of global greenhouse gases. Signing on to the Poseidon Principles enables us to take concrete action to cut our financed emissions and support our customers and stakeholders across the maritime eco-system more effectively on their journey to decarbonise. It is also an extension of our Responsible Financing framework, in place since 2017, which spells out policies and practices to ensure that our financial services do not adversely impact people, communities or the environment.
Together with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), we have launched the Technology Young Talent Programme @ OCBC, a curated one-year tech internship for NP students. The first batch of interns will join us in March 2022 where they will gain real-world work experience and exposure to Web 3.0 technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Every internship will be customised according to a student’s area of study, strengths and interests. Such programmes are important for nurturing the next-generation tech workforce, especially given the tech talent crunch in the financial sector.

OCBC is committed to investing in the growth of our talent and equipping them with core skills that help build their career. We have different opportunities across the OCBC Group and our people have the flexibility to develop themselves in different roles across entities and regions. Some customers are relentless – but so are our branch banking colleagues! It took five of them from our Choa Chu Kang branch to convince a 57 year old female customer - on three separate occasions - not to remit monies overseas as they were convinced she was a victim of a love scam.
